NASCAR Officials discovered the lid on Carl Edwards’ winning No. 99 Ford Fusion was not secured on the oil tank following the UAW-Dodge 400.
Five NASCAR Nationwide Series teams were penalized for the same infraction following qualifying at Daytona. Each team was docked points, fined money and had their crew chiefs suspended.
NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston explained to reporters, \"We had an issue in post-race inspection with the 99. The lid on the oil reservoir encasement, or the oil tank box, was off…we\'re going to take the 99 back to the [NASCAR] Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C., and if there are any actions that need to be taken, those will be taken and announced next week.\"
This penalty could set Edwards and his Roush Fenway Racing team back after having two strong weekends in a row.
