Slack Joins World Racing Group Management

roger-slackLegendary motorsports promoter Roger Slack has been named the Executive Vice President of Events for the World Racing Group.

 

Slack’s lifelong experience in the sport will be an asset to the parent company of The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, The World of Outlaws Late Model Series and The Super DIRTcar Series.

 

After learning the business through his family-owned race track in Ontario, Canada, Slack organized his first event at the age of six. The young racing enthusiast became a flagman at 14 and promoted racing events to pay his way through college.

A Look Back: The 1969 Alabama 200

bobby-allisonOn December 8, 1968, Bobby Allison won the Alabama 200 at Montgomery Speedway in Montgomery, AL by a mere four feet over Richard Petty.

 

Petty started the race on the pole after qualifying with a fast lap of 80.899mph on the half-mile paved track and led the first nine laps of the 200 lap event before being passed by Bobby Isaac in his No. 71 K&K Insurance Dodge on lap 10.

Last Day To Vote For The Stewies

tony-stewartOnce known as the sport’s baddest bad boy, Tony Stewart has crossed over from the dark side to become NASCAR’s class clown.

 

The former champion is scheduled to deliver the 3rd annual Stewie Awards live from the Rio Las Vegas on Sirius Radio this Thursday, December 3rd at 10pm.

 

The Stewie Awards, obviously named after Smoke himself, acknowledge the best, funniest and sometimes downright strange moments, one example being Carl Edwards losing a fight with a Frisbee, of the most recent NASCAR season.

21st Annual Stocks For Tots

ryan-newmanOn Tuesday, December 8th the twenty-first annual Stocks for Tots holiday event will take place.  Stocks for Tots was established in 1989 to help raise awareness for child abuse prevention and parenting in North Carolina.  The idea is to collect toys and raise money while hardcore race fans mingle with over 40 current race car drivers, racing legends, crew chiefs, and other motorsports personalities.

 

Since the first Stocks for Tots annual holiday event it has raised over $850,000 and distributed nearly 50,000 Christmas toys to children in our area.

 

This year’s event will take place at the Charles Mack Citizen Center in downtown Mooresville.  Some of the stars to attend the event include: Ryan Newman, Don Miller, Ray Evernham, Erin Evernham, Sam Hornish Jr., Larry McReynolds, JC Stout, Clay Rogers, Ned Jarrett, Waddell Wilson, Justin Lofton, John Andretti, Travis Kvapil, Tommy Baldwin, Rex White, Peanut Turman, Billy Biscoe, Brownie King, Tiger Tom Pistone, Bill Mangum, Neil Castles and Lloyd Dane.
