Gordon and McMurray Pace Final Practice
Saturday, 29 March 2008 19:00

Slump? What Slump? Don’t expect Jeff Gordon to voice any concern about not visiting victory lane yet in 2008.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver has dominated much of the weekend at Martinsville Speedway, capturing the pole for Sunday’s Goody’s Cool Orange 500 and leading Saturday’s final practice.

The driver of the No. 24 Dupont Chevrolet laid down a lap of 19.841 seconds at 95.439 mph to take the top spot.

Roush Fenway Racing’s Jamie McMurray proved to everyone he could step up his game when it was needed. The Missouri-native currently sits in 36th spot in Owner Points and was required to qualify on time, or risk going home. McMurray powered his No. 26 Irwin Industrial Tools Ford Fusion to 5th starting spot on the grid for Sunday’s event.

McMurray was second fastest behind Gordon in final practice with a time of 19.879 seconds at 95.256 mph.

Gordon’s Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson was third fastest, while McMurray’s Roush Fenway Racing teammates David Ragan and Carl Edwards rounded out the top-5.
