On The Bubble: Talladega
Thursday, 24 April 2008 19:00

This weekend the Cup Series rolls into Talladega, Alabama for the Aaron’s 499. After a week off, it is back to business for everyone in the garage.

The keys to being successful at the 2.66-mile Superspeedway are simple; find a drafting partner and avoid the ‘big one’. However, for those outside the top-35 in Owner Points, the biggest key to Talladega is making the show.

Dale Earnhardt Inc.’s Regan Smith weathered the storm at Phoenix International Raceway and remains in 35th spot – the final spot locked into the field – just three points ahead of J.J. Yeley and eight points ahead of the No. 22 of Dave Blaney.

After a disappointing 39th place finish in the desert, J.J. Yeley fell three spots in the Owner Standings and now finds himself on the outside looking in. Sitting 36th, Yeley will have to pedal his Hall of Fame Racing No. 96 Toyota into the field in Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session.

Michael Waltrip Racing’s David Reutimann was the biggest mover in Phoenix, climbing four spots in the Owner Standings to 34th securing his spot in the field. Reutimann had locked himself into the field earlier in the year driving the No. 00, but was forced outside the top-35 after switching to the No. 44.

Veteran Ken Schrader will be behind the wheel of the Haas/CNC Racing No. 70 this weekend at Talladega. Schrader is the third driver for this team in as many events. They currently find themselves in 38th spot and will need to make the show Saturday.

AJ Allmendinger is back behind the wheel of the Red Bull Racing No. 84 this weekend after a five race hiatus. The team is currently 40th in the standings, 111 points behind Regan Smith. Allmendinger will have to step up and prove his time on the sidelines was well spent by making the show on Saturday.
