Hello there Hard Core Race Fans. Those of you visiting the Charlotte area for Speedweeks (Carolina Style) let me extend an open armed welcome to the area. We’re so glad you’re here. Those of you who aren’t here, we miss you, wish you were here.

A philosophy of mine: A stranger is friend you have yet to make. Another one: Friends are the family GOD lets you choose for yourself.

While attending the All Star race this past weekend, I was surrounded by families, mainly those related by blood. They wore their colors proudly. There were families supporting only one driver (like the 5 member family from Aiken SC, proudly supporting Jeff Gordon), then there were those who were divided (another family of 5-Mom, Dad, and son-Dale Earnhardt, Jr. fans and the two girls - Kasey Kahne fans - they were so cute in their glittery Kasey hats). I was there with my two nephews, one a Tony Stewart fan, the other (like I am) fan of whoever crosses the finish line first - enjoys the sport for the level of competition.

Everyone cheered their driver during the driver introductions and throughout the night. We booed the villains. We enjoyed the amenities Lowe’s Motor Speedway offers. We purchased new collectibles and souvenirs. We shared stories. We became friends. We became family.

I look forward to becoming your friend this week. I want you to share your stories with me, so I can share them with Hard Core Race Fans everywhere. I’ll be there in anticipation of my favorite four words: "GENTLEMEN START YOUR ENGINES," the thrill of the competition, and adding you to my family, right here in Race Country USA.

Drop the rag, let's go.
