Reutimann Delivers For UPS & MWR At Lowe's
Wednesday, 28 May 2008 10:52

Perhaps one of the most over-looked stories of this weekend's Coca-Cola 600 was the run by Michael Waltrip Racing's David Reutimann. The driver of the No. 44 UPS Toyota was able to seal the deal after 600 miles and bring home his first top-10 finish of 2008.

After starting the event from the 28th-position, Reutimann was able to work his way through the field and keep his nose clean en route to the first top-10 of his short Cup Series career. For Reutimann, this is a sign of things to come.

"We haven't really done much to deliver any good finishes," Reutimann pointed out. "I think this is maybe a start for things to come and I appreciate [UPS] sticking with me and everybody at the shop."

Despite running better than in 2007, Reutimann and the entire MWR organization has continued to struggle this year. All three teams remain in the top-35 in owner points - Michael Waltrip leaves Charlotte on the bubble in 35th - with Reutimann the best of the stable.

Going into the Memorial Day weekend race at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Reutimann's best finish was 18th - at the season-opening Daytona 500 and the Subway Fresh Fit 500 in Phoenix. This weekend's top-10 moved the No. 44 Toyota up two spots in the owner standings to 29th.

"We're doing what we should be doing right now," Reutimann explained. "It's not any one thing - it's a bunch of little things we're doing better - It just shows how competitive and how tough it is and there's no sure things in this business."

Heading into this weekend's event, Reutimann returns to the Monster Mile at Dover for only the second time in his Cup Series career. Driving the No. 00 last season, Reutimann failed to qualify for this event, but made the show for the September race. Starting 13th that day, Reutimann was able to salvage an 18th-place finish. The key to any success this weekend will be to keep his nose clean again and stay out of trouble - something much more difficult at the Monster Mile.
