While Robby Gordon did not attempt to pull the double-duty this Memorial Day at Indianapolis and Charlotte, he will once again put himself to the test by running the Baja 500 and the Best Buy 400 in the same weekend.
An avid and successful off-road racer, Gordon returns to the Baja desert for the 40th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500. Driving his Monster Energy/Toyo Tires Hummer, the three-time Baja champion looks to improve his record "south of the border" while preparing for the upcoming Dakar Rally. Gordon pointed out, "This year we are going to the Baja 500 on a mission to not only win the race, but to gain more experience in the Monster Energy / Toyo Tires Hummer for the 2009 Dakar Rally, which is only seven months away." "It will be interesting to see how the Hummer's unrestricted 700hp engine performs. This should be a fun race and a beneficial practice run for the 2009 Dakar Rally. The more we run the Hummer, the better it gets." Making this weekend even more special, Thursday Gordon will be inducted into the Carrera Cantina's Hall of Fame. Gordon will share this honor with a number of successful off-road racers, including his father, Bob Gordon. Following the completion of the 441.15-mile event through the Mexican desert, Gordon will then hop on a plane and head to Dover, Del. in order to run the Best Buy 400. Craftsman Truck Series driver Matt Crafton will practice and qualify the No. 7 Jim Beam Dodge while Gordon wraps things up out West. "This is going to be an exciting weekend of racing for me," Gordon explained. "Driving almost 1000 miles and flying across the country. After his recent win in Charlotte, I have all the confidence in the world that Matt (Crafton) will get the Jim Beam Dodge dialed in for Sunday's race. I finished in the top-ten at Dover last year after completing the Baja 500, and I think our Jim Beam Dodge will perform well on the fast, one-mile concrete track again this year. At some point, our bad luck has to go away so that all of this team's hard work can be paid off." Follow along with all of Robby's action this weekend by tracking his progress in the Baja 500 live at www.racetheworld.net and by tuning into Fox, MRN or Sirius Satellite Radio starting at 2:00 p.m. ET for all of Sunday's coverage of the Best Buy 400 live from Dover International Speedway.
