Laying down a lap of 23.193 seconds at a blistering 155.219 mph, Greg Biffle blew the competition away en route to his second pole of 2008. Biffle was the only driver to break the 155 mph barrier in his No. 16 3M Ford Fusion.
"Normally Dover is one of the toughest places to qualify - you're always on edge," Biffle said. "The car just stuck to the racetrack so well. These guys are making it so easy for me as a driver giving me these race cars." Currently 11th in the series standings, Biffle has one win at the Monster Mile and was the runner-up here last September. Biffle - who has run extremely strong in the last few weeks - hopes to break through and get his first win of 2008 here at Dover on Sunday. "What we need to do as a team is me not make any mistakes as a driver make good pits stops - keep our track position," Biffle explained. "I think we have a fast enough car to win here on Sunday, but it takes a lot of luck in this sport. You've got to be in the right place at the right time, not make any mistakes to win these races"Hopefully this weekend we can get there." Kurt Busch was second fastest with a lap of 23.381 seconds at 153.971 mph It was a great run the way the car unloaded off the hauler. It was very comfortable Always a bit apprehensive how your set-up is going to shake down," the driver of the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge explained. "I was trying to chase down Biffle, but he laid down an incredible lap. "We're just trying to claw our way back in this," Busch went on to say. "To be good here today is a small victory and it complements the set-up we have in the car. Testing is one thing, qualifying is another and then there is the race itself and that's what we've been struggling with this year." Kyle Busch set the third fastest time of the afternoon with a lap of 23.381 seconds at 153,767 mph. Busch explained, "[We] didn't get the most out of the car that we probably could have gotten out of the car today. We just didn't have it free enough to where I could get back in the gas where I wanted to and get a good drive off the corner." Jimmie Johnson will start in the fourth-spot, while Biffle's Roush Fenway Racing teammate Jamie McMurray will round out the top-5. Of the cars required to qualify on time, A.J. Allmendinger laid down a strong lap that was good enough for 8th-spot, solidly in the show. Jeremy Mayfield - filling in for the injured Dario Franchitti - was the tenth fastest qualifier in the No. 40 Target Dodge. Going home this weekend are the No. 45 of Chad McCumbee and No. 70 driven this week by Jason Lefler. For the second weekend in a row, a Chip Ganassi Racing Dodge was the slowest car in the field. Last week, Juan Pablo Montoya could only muster enough for 43rd-spot and this weekend Reed Sorenson was in the same boat. This is clear indication that change is long overdue at this organization.
