The picturesque Michigan International Speedway is the site of this weekends Cool City Customs 200 Truck SeriesĀ and Lifelock 400 Cup Series race events.
Located in Michigan's beautiful Irish Hills, the two mile speedway features a wide racing surface that allows four and five abreast racing. Drivers love the racing room and fans are familiar with the exciting racing action the track offers.
"If you look up 'racetrack' in the dictionary it should have a picture of Michigan," Cup series driver J.J. Yeley said recently. "I like Michigan, because it's obviously one of the faster racetracks we go to, but also because there are so many grooves to choose from. You can very easily go four abreast through the corners and down the straightaways. There's always racing going on all the way back through the field. That doesn't always happen when you go to so many of these other places." Michigan International Speedway officials say that while ticket sales are good for this weekends races, they are not expecting a sellout. "We've known for a while it's not going to be a sellout," track president Roger Curtis said. "It is what it is. It doesn't concern me. It's still going to be one of the largest races of the year from an attendance standpoint." Recent track surveys indicate that Michigan's poor job market and the price of gasoline, hitting a national average high of $4 per gallon this week, are to blame. "We are going to be down, but I want to spend this week focusing on the 100,000 fans who are coming and making this a great week for them," Curtis stated. Hardcore Race Fans who want to attend the Michigan races can obtain tickets by calling the track office or visiting MISpeedway.com Speed TV will broadcast the Truck Series race Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and TNT will carry live flag to flag coverage of Sunday's Lifelock 400 beginning at 12:30 p.m.
