Cup Series qualifying for Sunday's Lifelock 400, scheduled for Friday afternoon at 3:10 p.m., has offically been canceled due to inclement weather in the Brooklyn, Michigan area. NASCAR rules dictate the starting field to be set according to the 2008 owner's point standings.
Current Cup Series points leader Kyle Busch will start his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota from the pole for the third time this season. Busch scored inside front row starting spots at Las Vegas in March and the Lowe's Motor Speedway last month.
Jeff Burton will line up outside of row one in a Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet with fellow Chevrolet driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and defending race champion Carl Edwards making up row two. Hendrick Motorsports driver Jimmie Johnson topped practice sessions earlier today at the Michigan International Speedway, recording a fast lap of 184.308 mph. Elliott Sadler was second fastest with a lap of 183.383, ahead of Robbie Gordon, Clint Bowyer and Greg Biffle. Sam Hornish, Jr. is locked into the field and will roll off the line thirty fifth by virtue of his current top thirty five position in owners points. Terry Labonte and Bill Elliott will start Sunday's race from the thirty sixth and thirty seventh spots via past champions provisionals. Jason Leffler and Tony Raines are the only two drivers locked out of the Lifelock 400 field. Leffler was scheduled to qualify the No. 70 for Haas-CNC racing, a team who was penalized heavily for rules violations at Charlotte in May. Defending polesitter J.J. Yeley, who earned the top spot in 2007 with a speed of 187.505 mph, will start fortieth.
