Two time defending champion Jimmie Johnson won at Indy on his first championship run in 2006. Since he has achieved what he has achieved you would believe that he would be confident heading into one of the biggest NASCAR races.
Johnson is not very confident heading into this year’s Allstate 400 at the Brickyard.
Johnson’s stats at Indianapolis are not that impressive: one victory, two Top-10 finished, 33 laps lead, three finishes of 36th or worse and an average finish of 23.5. “We’ve struggled at Indy for some reason - it’s definitely on our list of tougher tracks,” said Johnson. “We were able to get a win there a couple years ago so we know we’re a team capable of winning there. We just have to have all the pieces fall into place for us.” Johnson states that the poor finishes were not a result of a poor car, but they were due to wrecks. And believes that if he steers away from trouble this weekend he can corral a strong finish. “It seems like it hasn’t been bad performances that have kept us from good finishes,” Johnson said. “We just tend to get caught up in a wreck or have some bad luck in the pits.” “A solid finish is definitely within reach if we can just stay out of trouble,” he said.
