Stewart Fined For Altercations During USAC Event
Tuesday, 29 July 2008 08:54

Tony Stewart was fined and placed on probation for altercations during a USAC event  at O’Reilly Raceway Park.

Stewart apparently shoved a USAC official and knocked the headset off of another as a result of a ruling pertaining Stewart’s car.

Tracy Hines, driver of Stewart’s car, bumped a wall and entered the pits to receive a tire change. Hines was then not considered ready to join the field for the restart.

Stewart was fined $10,000 and placed on probation for remnants of the USAC season.

Vice president of racing operations for USAC Jason Smith stated, "While we respect the passion of our teams in the spirit of competition, we regret this incident occurred and are dedicated to averting a recurrence in the future."

Stewart apologized for his actions and offered to pay for the new uniforms and radios for the USAC officials.

"Obviously, I handled this particular situation the wrong way, and if I had to do it over again, it never would've happened," he said.

Kevin Miller, chief executive and president of USAC, thanked Stewart for supplying the officials with new equipment.

"While what took place at ORP last week was unfortunate, we applaud Tony's commitment to bettering USAC and for providing additional equipment officials use week in and week out," said Miller.
