Speedway Motorsports, Inc. has announced the promotion of veteran motorsports businessman Don Hawk to the new position of vice president of business affairs. The announcement was made by Marcus Smith, president of Speedway Motorsports, Inc.
Hawk's new duties will include the overseeing of several SMI properties including 600 Racing, SMI Properties and The Source International. Additionally, Hawk will cordinate the company's food and beverage operations and will continue to be the lead director in the Motorsports Authentics joint venture.
Hawk sports an incredible motorsports resume dating back to 1986 when he started his career as director of Winner Ford Motorsports. He was general manager of Alan Kulwicki Racing in 1992, the year Kulwicki & Company earned the Cup Series championship. The accomplished motorsports industry leader went to work as president of Dale Earnhardt, Inc. in 1993 and remained there until 2000 before forming Hawk Sports Management. His clients included Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and NASCAR. The tireless Hawk became director of regional racing development for NASCAR in 2005. His responsibilities there included research and development for NASCAR's weekly racing and regional touring series. Hawk was instrumental in the development and implementation of composite stock car bodies and spec engines for the sanctioning body’s regional touring series during his tenure. Marcus Smith also announced the promotions of Mike Burch to vice president of business development and Jessica Fickenscher to director of special projects. “These individuals have proven to be very effective managers and the promotions better position them to lead Speedway Motorsports into the future,” said Smith. “As our company continues to grow and evolve, we are very fortunate to have quality, experienced people who are eager to assume additional responsibilities.”
