Hamlin Set To Make Start At Site Of First Victory
Thursday, 31 July 2008 08:38

Denny Hamlin will achieve a personal milestone this Sunday at Pocono Raceway where he will make his 100th start in the Cup Series.

Pocono is a great place for this milestone to occur. In 2005, Hamlin’s rookie year, he swept the races at the venue, recording his first two victories in NASCAR’s highest level.

"I think it's gone as well as I ever could have hoped when [team owner] Joe and [team President] J.D. [Gibbs] made the decision to put me in the No. 11 car,” a reminiscing Hamlin said. “I've had the benefit of great equipment, having the same crew chief and crew for three years and having FedEx as a sponsor from the beginning. As a young driver coming into the series, I know I have been really fortunate to have that consistency all around me.

Hamlin can not single out any moment in his career, he feel that his NASCAR career has been a highlight.

“To be honest, this whole experience has been a highlight. You'll have your up and down moments here and there, but we've had more good days than bad in the Cup Series, and we think we have a lot to do yet."

Hamlin will strive to become a consistent championship contender for the remainder of his career. To do so he will have to win races, which happens
to be another goal Hamlin will strive to achieve.

Hamlin has not been far off track, in his first two seasons he has qualified for the Chase each year.

Hamlin feels that this goal will be attained by his race team.

"If we keep improving all the time, which I have no doubt we will, I think that's a reasonable goal. But with as competitive as this series is, I won't take anything we’ve accomplished so far for granted.
