Edwards Takes Fourth Victory of the Season At Pocono Raceway
Monday, 04 August 2008 10:02

On Sunday Carl Edwards drove into Victory Lane for the fourth time this season after winning the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway.

Pit strategy was vital for Edwards win on Sunday, when the No. 99 Roush Fenway team decided to pit just before rain delayed the event for a period of 41 minutes.

"I was really nervous that we made the wrong call there," Edwards stated. "Bob's the smartest guy in the world. We were really arguing. We made light of it, but we thought we made the wrong call."

After Edwards went into pit road rain began to fall from the gloomy sky. Kasey Kahne, who had a strong performance, was one of the drivers who gambled on the theory that the race would end in advance due to the rain.

Edwards’ decision ended up being the right one when on lap 187 Mark Martin, leader at the time, navigated the No. 8 DEI Chevrolet down pit road handed over the lead to Edwards.

The only issue on the No. 99 team’s mind was gas, but that ended up being no issue at all. Edwards held the top spot for the remaining laps of the race, and crossed the finish line approximately 4 seconds ahead of second place finisher, Tony Stewart.

Concluding the Top-5 were Jimmie Johnson, Kevin Harvick and David Ragan.

An excited Osborne proclaimed after the race, "Kudos to Carl Edwards. That's what teamwork is all about."
