Biffle Cutting It Close, Looks To Widen The Gap At Michigan
Thursday, 14 August 2008 09:22

"It's definitely not easy cruising to the Chase right now," said Roush Fenway driver, Greg Biffle. "We know that we're on the envelope of getting in."

With a 61 point gap between him and 12th place Matt Kenseth, Biffle is aware that any mistake he makes this late in the season could cost him a spot in the Chase.

"We're in that eighth-through-13th class that's going to fight right down to Richmond unless one of us breaks out, gets a win, a couple of top 5’s and locks ourselves in the next two races," he said.

After a 21st place finish at Watkins Glen International, Biffle decayed two spots to tenth place in the standings. In spite of last Sunday, don’t look for Biffle to give up. The Roush Fenway Racing driver has amassed two victories, four top-5’s and six top-10’s at Michigan International Speedway in his career in NASCAR’s top series.

"The thing I love about Michigan is you can race as hard as you want," Biffle said. "You can go two-and-three wide on that downforce racetrack for the win and be able to do that in a cautious manner where you're going to get a good finish.”

"To run two feet off the wall at Michigan is, I'd like to say, a dangerous line because one little mistake and it wipes the right side of the car off," he said. "I intend to stay away from that line."

Finishing 13th and 21st in the past two races, don’t expect Biffle to continue that statistic. Team owner Jack Roush confirms that the organization tends to have pretty good luck at the venue.

"We've had a legacy of having really fast cars, I think, of having generally pretty good engines and better-than-average luck there," Roush said.
