Next years version of the Budweiser Shootout will experience some format changes.
The top-six drivers for each manufacturer will be entitled to participate in the nocturnal event on Saturday, February 7, 2009. Additionally, the distance of the race will inflate from 70 to 75 laps and will include a ten minute intermission after the progression of 25 laps for the teams to change tires, add fuel and make any needed adjustments to the car.
Daytona president Robin Braig notes, “We’re thrilled about the new format for the Budweiser Shootout.” “This new look for the Budweiser Shootout will provide added excitement for the race fans, teams, drivers and manufacturers as NASCAR kicks off its new season at its most storied venue,” added Braig. Vice president of global media and sports marketing for Anheuser-Busch, Inc., Tony Ponturo, agreed with Braig stating, “The Budweiser Shootout is one of the most anticipated events on the racing calendar for both drivers and fans, and we feel the new format will certainly retain the fast-paced excitement and competitive spirit of the race.”
