Gordon Fastest In Final Practice
Friday, 05 September 2008 14:19

Looking to break into Victory Lane for the first time this year and add ten bonus points before the start of the Chase, Jeff Gordon powered his No. 24 DuPont/Nicorette Chevrolet to the top of the speed charts in Friday's final practice. Although Gordon took the top spot, it was not by much.

David Ragan showed he means business by running the second fastest time of the hour-long session. Only one one-thousandth of a second slower than Gordon, Ragan appears to be confident heading into this weekend's crucial race. This weekend's Chevy Rock & Roll 400 is make-or-brake for the No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing team and both driver and crew chief appear confident.

The man Ragan is chasing for the Chase, Clint Bowyer, recorded the twenty-third fastest time. The third wheel of this battle, Kasey Kahne, appeared unhappy with his practice effort after recording only the twenty-ninth fastest time.Juan Pablo Montoya drove his No. 42 Juicy Fruit Slim Pack Dodge to the third fastest time, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mark Martin rounded out the top-5.

Youngster Joey Logano, attempting to make his first career Cup Series start, spent the majority of the practice session in the top-5, before falling to ninth at the end of the session.

Qualifying for Saturday's Chevy Rock & Roll 400 is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. ET on Friday night. Be sure to check back to HardcoreRaceFans.com for all of the latest updates from the Richmond International Raceway.
