Due to Tropical Storm Hanna, NASCAR and Richmond International Raceway officials, working closely with state, local and city government decided to postpone all scheduled track events until Sunday afternoon.
The threat of high winds, heavy rain and the possibility of downed power lines and trees forced NASCAR's hands to cancel all planned events both Friday and Saturday night. Fans camping at the track are not being asked to leave, but are recommended to take all precautions for the coming storm. The track will not be open at all on Saturday, with gates opening 7 a.m. ET on Sunday.
For the second time this year, NASCAR will run both the Cup Series and Nationwide Series events on the same day. The Cup Series Rock & Roll 400 is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. ET and will be seen on ESPN. Following the conclusion of the Cup Series event, the Nationwide Emerson Radio 250 will be run at 7 p.m. ET. Both races will be lined up according to 2008 owner points, meaning all the hype surrounding Joey Logano's first career Cup Series start will have to wait for another weekend.
