Hardcore Race Fans Turn Out In Droves Despite Delays
Sunday, 07 September 2008 16:49

With both the Nationwide and Cup Series events postponed until Sunday, track officials were unsure of how the weather and delayed schedule would affect attendance once the gates reopened. Postponing any sporting event for even a day always results in a drop in attendance, yet judging by the traffic heading into the speedway and the crowd gathering in the grandstands, fans appear to have toughed it out and returned for one of the biggest races of the year.

The inclement weather forecast for both Friday and Saturday from Tropical Storm Hanna turned out to be more hype than hurt. Both nights featured some rain and a bit of wind, but nothing like meteorologists had predicted, and in fact stars could be seen on both nights.

With sunny skies and warm temperatures, Hardcore Race Fans would not be turned away and were not deterred by the impending storm. Looking around the grandstands as they were filling prior to the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 empty seats could still be seen, yet this turn out was better than anything some other speedways could produce on a scheduled event.

One thing both fans and the speedway had on its side was the fact the scheduled events allowed for racing on Sunday. Had fans been forced to reschedule travel plans and take a day from work for a race on Monday, the stands would have been much more barren. Luckily for all involved that was not the case and they got to see a great race.
