Despite Struggles Of Organization, Montoya Defends His Employer
Thursday, 11 September 2008 07:30

With two drivers leaving the organization and Texaco leaving the sport, 2008 has not shown itself to be a staple year for Chip Ganassi Racing.

Although he went into the season with high hopes and expectations, Juan Pablo Montoya did not manage to qualify for the Chase.

Although team owner Chip Ganassi stated earlier this year that it was "chase or bust" Montoya remains to defend his boss' organization.

"I think the NASCAR organization has to go through major changes, and that's the process we are going through right now," said Montoya.

This year the team has struggled, and Chip Ganassi Racing lost two of it's drivers due to various reasons.

Montoya knows of the organizations struggles, but notes that things are
tarting to look up for the company.

"In a way, it's good because everyone who is here wants to succeed and wants to be here. Chip is working very hard to get us better. Are we there? No. But things are starting to click and there's a lot of things coming, and when all those things arrive and you put them in place, we'll be in good shape."

When questioned of his loyalty to the team and his boss, Montoya replied, "If I wasn't committed to him, and believed in him, then I wouldn't be here. It's that simple."

After the No. 40 team was shut down due to failing to attract sponsorship, Franchitti elected to go back to the IRL.

Montoya feels that Franchitti's decision was the best for him, and Chip Ganassi Racing as a whole.

"I think at the end of the day, it was as close as [Franchitti] could get to a happy ending," Montoya opinionated. "I think he gave it a try, and at the end he was getting a lot better.

"I think if you look at the big picture, that's a good thing."

Of teammate Reed Sorenson leaving for Gillett Evernham Motorsports, Montoya states that the decision to leave was problably one to better himself as a driver.

"I think he went and did what was best for himself," Montoya said. "I think himself here, he had lost a little bit of determination toward what he wanted to achieve."

The sophomore driver is not goint to let the misfortunes of the season bring him down. Montoya believes that Ganassi has everything under control, and things have worked out for the best.

Looking foward to a fresh organization and new year, Montoya hopes to reveal his potential in the near future.
