In March of 2006 Charlotte, NC beat out cities such as Daytona Beach, Kansas City, Atlanta and Richmond and was awarded the rights of placing the NASCAR Hall of Fame in the city.
$163 million was granted for the erection of the Hall of Fame. Approximately two years and six months after the grant, the Hall of Fame is pleading for an additional $32 million to go to be directed in various directions.
If approval is granted by the city of Charlotte $17 million will be trafficed to enlarging the exhibit area, $12 million to be directed to contingency funds, $3 million will make the building more energy efficient and $1 million for public art.
