The defending champion of the Dodge Dealers 400 can't wait to travel north to Dover International Speedway. Last year Carl Edwards led 91 laps of the event, and ended up in the Monster Mile’s Victory Lane.
With his sights set on Dover, Edwards looks to do just the same thing he did one year ago... win. “Dover is one of my favorite tracks," shared Edwards. "It’s pretty much a one groove track so you need to handle well through the center of the corners in order to keep your position. We won this race last year, and we had a strong race here in the spring."
Since his first race at Dover in September of 2004, Edwards has amassed one win, four top-5 and five top-10 outings. His lowest finish at the venue is 18th, and that finish came in his first attempt at Dover in the Cup Series. Behind every good driver is a good crew chief, and Bob Osborne calls the shots for the No. 99 Roush Fenway Racing Ford Fusion. Osborne knows what Edwards likes, and that’s what it takes to be successful at the Monster Mile.
"Dover is a tough track. It’s really unique and different from any other track that we go to," said Osborne. "You have to have a brave driver to be fast at Dover. I think it's probably one of the more physically demanding tracks on a driver, but Carl and the Office Depot team are up to the challenge. Having won this race last year, we’re gunning for two in a row. We accomplished that earlier this year at Bristol, and with the way we ran in June I think we’ve got a great chance at it.” With “Concrete Carl” in a two way tie with Jimmie Johnson for the top spot in the Sprint Cup point standings, his past success at the track will come in handy this weekend when he looks to leave Dover with the Cup Series point lead. "We’re coming in as the point leader, and we’d like to head out of Dover in the same position," Edwards said. "Hopefully we’ll get our Office Depot Fusion dialed in and handling well and get a good finish.”
