After a major setback in both races of the Chase to the Sprint Cup, Kyle Busch has proclaimed his championship hopes have walked the plank.
As we all know the phrase "it takes two to tango", Steve Addington has not walked off just yet. Addington is the crew chief for the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing team and he insists that, "We're down, but we're not dead yet. There's still a long ways to go and anything can happen."
After dominating the regular season, Busch has faltered to dead last in the Chase standings. Addington believes that he is just frustrated right now, and will get over it before this weekend. "Right after stuff happens, you know how Kyle is, he's frustrated," Addington stated. "When he has time to sit down and think about it, and calms down a little bit, he knows how bad we wanted it and how bad he wanted it. It takes a day or two, but then he's fine." Trailing the point leader Carl Edwards by 210 points, it will take one impressive run to make a comeback of that nature. Despite the gap, Busch is not mathmatically out of it just yet. Jimmie Johnson filled in a 165 poit hole with seven races left in the 2006 season to claim his first title. Also, a driver has been known to gain as much as 100 points on the leader in one race in four occasions in Chase history. "We've got to just go out and win races," said Addington. "We can't do anything other than that -- just try to make up as many points as we can. There's no other way to approach it. We don't have anything to lose. So lets keep the guys pumped up to go out and do what they've done all season."
