The No. 84 Toyota Gets A New Pair Of Wings
Wednesday, 01 October 2008 05:23

With the Camping World RV 400 presented by Coleman being A.J. Allmendinger's final race for Red Bull Racing, the organization have announced that Mike Skinner and Scott Speed will share driving privileges of the No. 84 Toyota Camry for the remainder of the 2008 season.

With the No. 84 team sitting in the 33rd spot in the owner's point standings, the duo will look to improve that statistic before the team ventures to New York in December.

"The schedule we put together is in the best interest of both Red Bull Racing Team and AJ's plans for the future,” General Manager of Red Bull Racing Jay Frye stated. "Allowing Mike Skinner and Scott Speed to share the No. 84 for the balance of the season helps our team continue developing our program for the future.”

Called to pilot the No. 84 Toyota for five races earlier in the season due to a lack of production on Allmendinger's behalf, Skinner's name has been called once more. He will take command of the vehicle for the upcoming two weekends at Talladega Superspeedway and Lowe's Motor Speedway.

On the second weekend of October, Speed will drive the No. 82 Camry in the Sprint Cup event at Lowe's Motor Speedway. In addition to competing at LMS, Speed will also focus on grasping the 2008 ARCA RE/MAX Series championship in Toledo, OH.

Following the weekend at LMS, Speed will then take the reins of the No. 84 for the remainder of the season as he looks to gain experience in NASCAR's top echelon.

“I’m really looking forward to my first Sprint Cup race with Red Bull." Speed concluded, "I can't describe how much it means to walk into Red Bull Racing and feel support from everyone on the team. It's a huge step up the ladder and another step towards the goal of becoming a Sprint Cup champion for Red Bull. I know this team has the performance level that it takes to be competitive.”
