JTG Daugherty Racing Forges Alliance With Michael Waltrip Racing

In it's debut season in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, JTG Daugherty Racing has announced that the organization has formed a technical coalition with Michael Waltrip Racing for 2009.

The union means that instead of the No. 47 Ford Fusion, driver Marcos Ambrose will pilot the No. 47 Toyota Camry.

The organization will move it's operation to MWR's edifice in Cornelius, NC. Engines will be provided by Toyota Racing Development, and the remaining equipment will be supplied by MWR.

Tad Geschickter, co-owner of JTG Daugherty Racing, is thrilled of the opportunity that has been bestowed upon him, and looks foward to the upcoming Sprint Cup season with MWR on his side.

“We are extremely excited that Toyota chose to support us as we move to the Sprint Cup Series,” said Geschickter. “Their engineering expertise and commitment to excellence is sure to expedite our development into a competitive Cup team.”

On the other side of the situation, MWR owner Michael Waltrip also looks foward to the alliance.

The partnership will not demolish MWR's chance to feild a fourth car in 2009.

“The alliance with Tad, Jodi and Brad happened because MWR has shown over the past few months that we can field a competitive product." Waltrip explains, “This allows MWR to maintain the economies of scale we currently enjoy as a three-car team. We continue to invest in our development, and this alliance helps keep the momentum we’ve gained in our fabrication and engineering departments this summer.

“We wanted to help Tad and Brad in their transition into NASCAR Sprint Cup ownership. If anyone can identify the hidden demons of a start-up team it is me. Having JTG Daugherty operating in our shop helps our NAPA Toyota and our Aaron’s Toyota with David Reutimann. So this is one of the classic examples of win-win-win for everyone involved, most importantly JTG Daugherty and MWR employees.”

Although MWR is currently undergoing a search to find sponsorship for the No. 00 Camry driven by Michael McDowell, the No. 47 Toyota does not lack sponsorship for next season.

Kingsford Charcoal, Clorox Laundry and Household Products and Little Debbie’s Snack Cakes will all appear on the No. 47 Camry throughout the 2009 season.
