No. 1 DEI Chevrolet Impounded
Thursday, 03 July 2008 19:00

On Thursday afternoon NASCAR officials seized the No. 1 DEI Chevrolet driven by Martin Truex Jr. after continually failing the pre-practice inspection. The impoundmet was as a result of the roof of the car not fitting the mandatory templates.

The No. 1 team unloaded the back up out of the hauler in order to get some practice. Unable to record a lap within the first hour, it was the only car that did not get out on the track.

"It's tough when you miss practice," Truex said. "Two hours of practice isn't that much to begin with. You miss one hour, it's tough to catch up if you're not right when you start."

Things got a little more sticky for Truex when rain began falling. The rain caused the final practices for both series to be cancelled.

At an earlier time in the season, Haas/CNC Racing had their cars impounded before a practice at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. At this point in the season Truex is ranked 14th, just 71 points out of the Top-12. If NASCAR penalized Truex similarly, the penalty would drop Truex to the 17th position, possibly ruining his chances at making the Chase for the Sprint Cup. With nine races left until the Chase begins, Truex has to have his fingers crossed.
