DEI Front Row Like Old Times
Thursday, 03 July 2008 19:00

Saturday night's Coke Zero 400 presented by Coca-Cola will feature an all DEI front row. Paul Menard laid down a hot lap of 185.916 mph at a time of 48.41 second to capture the top spot. Mark 'The Kid' Martin just missed out on the pole position after running a lap of 48.42 seconds at 185.870 mph.

Former DEI driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. will roll off in the third spot in his No. 88 National Guard Chevrolet. Go-or-go-home drivers Joe Nemechek and Johnny Sauter round out the top-5 for Saturday night's race.

Haas CNC Racing's Scott Riggs and Hall of Fame Racing's J.J. Yeley failed to make the show, a major blow for two teams outside the top-35.

This weekend's event at Daytona International Speedway is an impound race, meaning teams will not be allowed to touch their cars until they roll off Saturday evening.

Judging by Friday's qualifying session, it appears Dale Earnhardt Inc.'s Superspeedway program is back where it used to be. For years the No. 8 and No. 15 cars were serious contenders each time the series visited Daytona and Talladega. Things have been a bit off at DEI in the past few years, with poor luck and blown engines ruining good days, but Friday's qualifying seems to show things have turned around for this team.
