Franchitti To Meet With Chip Ganassi On Friday
Thursday, 10 July 2008 19:00

Since learning his team would be terminated, Franchitti has not been a happy camper.

"It was a big shock that it happened," Franchitti said Thursday. "Myself and 70 people lost their jobs in Concord. A lot of people are upset right now, but I understand if there's no money, there's no money.

A meeting between Franchitti and Chip Ganassi expected to be held on Friday to discuss the future of the Indianapolis 500 winner.

"Tomorrow is quite a big day with this meeting with Chip," Franchitti said. "We're starting to look around, starting to talk, [but] nothing is going to happen until I talk to Chip and see what his plan is for the future and see if it's something I'm interested in. I certainly owe Chip that much."

Despite the misfortunes of this season, Franchitti does not regret his descision to leave IndyCar.

“I was thinking about that the other day and when I made the decision to leave IndyCar it was because I felt I had run my course,” Franchitti said. “I didn’t feel I was going to have that, I don’t know what the right word [is], determination maybe to get back in the car again this year.  I really felt it was time to do something else. Had I not come to NASCAR I would have done something else apart from IndyCar.”

Franchitti claims that he has been getting calls about some openings, but will not act on anything until discussions between he and his boss are complete.

“We’re starting to look around, starting to talk,” Franchitti said. “But really nothing is going to happen until I speak to Chip and see what his position is, see what his plan is for the future and see if it’s something that I’m interested in then I can make a decision.  I certainly owe Chip that much and then we’ll go from there.”
