This weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway Kasey Kahne will attempt to become the only driver to successfully complete the three race sweep at the North Carolina track.
"It would be a huge accomplishment for me personally and everyone at Gillett Evernham Motorsports to be able to complete the sweep," Kahne exclaimed. "Lowe's is definitely one of my favorite tracks." Kahne is the sixth driver to have a shot at the accompolishment, with the most recent driver being Jimmie Johnson who's shot came in 2003. Johnson ended up with a third place finish in the Bank of America 500.
Davey Allison was driver to get the closest to the feat. In 1991's October event, Allison finished second behind Geoffrey Bodine. The All-Star week in Charlotte kicked off what looked to be a Dodge comeback. With some car troubles shooting his chances to be a Chase contender in the foot, Kahne missed the 12-man feild by one spot. With dominating performances at Lowe's this season, it is not too far out of reach to take the highest available position. Kahne trails the 13th place holder David Ragan by 117 points. "I enjoy racing at Lowe's Motor Speedway, we've had a lot of success there," Kahne noted. "It's a track where I seem to know what the car needs to go fast. We've run up front a lot there since 2004, so I feel fairly confident going back."
