The Army's Newest Recruit
Thursday, 09 October 2008 06:24

Thursday afternoon, Stewart-Haas Racing will hold a press conference at the Lowe's Motor Speedway where it is expected the team will announce the U.S. Army has come on board to sponsor the No. 39 Chevrolet to be driven by Ryan Newman.

The U.S. Army is reportedly leaving Dale Earnhardt Inc. at the conclusion of the 2008 season, and all indications point to the sponsor heading to the newly formed Stewart-Haas Racing.

With the Army coming on board, team co-owner Tony Stewart has been able to use his star power and marketability to rope in three major sponsors for his two teams. Office Depot and Old Spice will share the role of primary sponsor on Stewart's No. 14 Chevrolet, while the Army appears it will be on the hood of Newman's No. 39. In a time of economic uncertainty and tight budgets, these three sponsors are putting a great deal of faith in a new organization.

Thursday's press conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET in the media center at the Lowe's Motor Speedway. Be sure to check back to HardcoreRaceFans.com for all of the latest updates.
