Showing his resilience, Kyle Busch put the past behind him and renewed the performance that he showcased in the regular season.
Starting the race in the 11th spot, Kyle Busch collected his first top-5 finish in the Chase in the Bank of America 500 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Getting penalized for speeding down pit road, it seemed that his chances at a win were demolished. The driver was punished by being knocked back one lap and fell from fifth to 16th. Overcoming his troubles, he was able to regain the lap and make a run back up to fourth place.
“We still had bad luck tonight,” Busch stated. “I made a mistake and sped on pit road there on the second-to-last stop, and you can’t have that at the end of the race. It was unfortunate there - it was my fault this time. We can’t ever get one straight without it being a problem.” Despite the “woulda, coulda, shouldas” that every driver will go through every drivers mind at one point, Busch is pleased with how the car performed. “It was a hard-fought fourth,” Busch said. “It was the best the car was there at the end of the race, the last couple runs. We were fortunate enough to bring this car home up front with a good fourth-place finish.” After beginning the Chase in first, Busch fell back to 12th. After his efforts at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, Busch was able to jolt himself up in the standings to ninth place. What seemed to be a championship season will have to be postponed until at least 2009, as Busch will make the best of the misfortunes that the No. 18 team has endured in the past five events. “I feel [finishing fourth] was pretty respectable considering what happened there at the end of the race. Speeding on pit road - when you get through one of these races without a mistake and tonight it was mine.” Busch continued, “Our car was fast there at the end of the race. It was pretty sporty and I have to thank everyone at Toyota and all the guys on the crew. They stuck with me.”
