When H. Clay Earles opened the Martinsville Speedway in 1947 he had one simple philosophy, treat the customer right and he will come back. Earles knew what he was doing as fans have been finding their way back to Martinsville for over sixty years now.
"The secret to success in our business is giving the customer what he wants," Earles once said. 'When a man plunks down his money, he deserves the best. You try to make him comfortable, give him a great show and make sure he gets his money's worth." Martinsville Speedway is known as one of the most picturesque facilities on the NASCAR circuit due to Earles penchant for detail. His hard work has paid off since that first race in 1947 and is largely responsible for the two Sprint Cup dates that Martinsville continues to host each year.
"Your customers are your greatest assets," Earles was known to say. "That will never change. You actually sell the customer a memory as much as a race." Martinsville has definitely provided many memories for fans and competitors alike. The half mile track located on the Virginia- North Carolina border has had a number of exciting and action packed races held on its long straights and tight turns. While many drivers have tested their skills on the tricky half mile, Richard Petty is the favorite son of Martinsvlle Speedway and continues to lead all others with 15 victories. NASCAR's warriors will head to Martinsville this weekend for round six of the Chase to the Cup. With a lot on the line and a slam bang five hundred laps scheduled for Sunday afternoon, Martinsville could play a major role in the outcome of the 2008 Cup Series championship. Stay tuned to HardcoreRaceFans.com for updates from Martinsville all weekend.
