With qualifying at Lowe’s Motor Speedway rained out last weekend, Scott Speed was unable to make his first appearance in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Speed will have another shot at making his debut in the Cup Series this weekend at Martinsville Speedway. Speed will drive the No. 84 Red Bull Toyota for the remaining five races of the 2008 season. With Martinsville being one of the roughest venues in the circuit, Speed will have his hands full as he competes with arguably the best drivers on the planet.
Speed will also participate in the Truck Series race driving the No. 22 Toyota for Bill Davis Racing. Speed made his second Truck Series start at Martinsville driving the same truck and recorded a tenth place finish. “Martinsville isn’t the nicest track to make my introduction to Cup, but it’s got to happen sometime,” Speed noted. “It’s going to be a tough race, and I expect to get beaten up quite badly, like everyone else. The drivers are going to be really rough, and I’m not going to make a lot of friends out there being a rookie.”
