Thursday, 23 October 2008 05:27

An indefinate suspension has been issued to Kevin Hamlin for governing the thickness of the sheet metal on the No. 83 Toyota. In addition to his suspension, Hamlin has been fined $100,000.

Adjusting the thickness of the sheet metal helps the car through corners by distributing the car's weight.

Brian Vickers has also been docked 150 points. Vickers' penalty will knock him down two spots on the point standings to seventeenth.

Although the team has the right to appeal the punishment that was given to them, but Red Bull Racing's general manager and vice president Jay Frye stated that the team will not attempt an appeal.

"As a team we accept full responsibility for the infractions regarding the No. 83's Martinsville car and will not appeal NASCAR's ruling," said Frye. "This approach to racing is against the values of the Red Bull Racing Team, and the necessary steps will be taken to rectify the situation ensuring it does not happen again. It is a privilege to race in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and we are taking this penalty seriously. [Research and development] Manager Randy Cox will assume the duties of interim crew chief on the No. 83 in Atlanta."
