With the economy in the situation that it is in, we have seen Dodge withdraw from the Truck Series. Ford is now added to the list of struggling manufacturers. Ford Motor Co. has annonced that they have lowered the overall NASCAR budget, but have also signed a three year agreement with Roush Fenway Racing.
The director of Ford Racing Technology, Brian Wolfe, stated that their main focus is on the Cup Series. The budget for the Cup Series will remain close to the same, but the company will not spend any money on Nationwide or Truck teams next year. “Our prime goal was really to protect our performance in Cup racing, and with that, we have cut back our support for the supporting series,” said Wolfe. “We have not pulled out of those series.” Although no financial terms of the deal were not released, Ford Motor Co.'s decision was made off of the dominance of Roush Fenway Racing.
Yates Racing also equips their drivers with a Ford Fusion in every race. The team has shown some unexpected promise in 2008 with David Gilliland and Travis Kvapil in the driver's seat of the No. 36 and No. 28 Fords. The Wood Brothers Racing team has struggled this year, and is the only Ford team that does not hold a spot in the top-35. The No. 21 Ford is driven by Bill Elliott and Jon Wood. “I really believe from the superpowers in NASCAR, the Roush Fenway organization is the best, period, bar none,” Wolfe said. “We have the other teams, the Wood Brothers and the Yates teams, [and] it’s a very, very strong lineup."
