Busch Climbs Out Of Basement With Sixth Place Finish
Monday, 03 November 2008 07:20

After finishing in the sixth position in the Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, Kyle Busch climbed out of the abyss that he had found himself in since the Chase for the Sprint Cup began.

Before the race Busch was located in the 12th spot in the point standings, but his finish bumped him up two spots to tenth one point ahead of Dale Earnhardt Jr.

“It was a good race car; the M&M’s Toyota was decent,” said Busch, who was searching for his first Texas win. “We battled all day to get up there and then we got shuffled back. It was the best we could do with the car we had.”

After gaining 20 spots in the beginning 64 laps, Busch found himself in contention for the win early on. With clean air being vital for a strong performance, Busch was slightly disappointed to miss the victory.

“Clean air was so important here and we had to get up front,” noted Busch. “We never really got there. We got there once but then we kind of got shuffled back a few spots because of the pit stops that came there at the end of the race with the last caution flag pit stop.

“Those guys took two and just got track position on us.”
