Edwards Keeps His Chin Up
Monday, 10 November 2008 07:17

Even though a fourth place finish usually doesn't disappoint any driver too bad, the conditions of Carl Edwards' fourth place effort was not good enough to get him closer to take the 2008 championship from race winner Jimmie Johnson.

After the Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 Edwards fell back to 141 points behind Johnson, a diffucult gap to jump for any driver.

“It’s possible, not real probable, but I guarantee that isn’t going to change the way we do business,” Edwards stated. “We’re going to go to Homestead with everything we’ve got and be aggressive and try to win the race. Mile-and-a-halves have been our best tracks lately, and I just wish we could’ve run a little better here.”

For Edwards to hijack the championship, Johnson has to finish in 36th (37th if he leads a lap). On the flipside Edwards has to lead the most laps... and win of course.

Although it isn't hard for Edwards to just throw in the towel, the hopeful champion can not let his frustrations get the best of him.

“Being frustrated isn’t going to help anything,” Edwards said. “Obviously I would have loved to won the race and be leading the points right now. But this is racing. You’ve got to do the best you can, and at Homestead we’ve got to do the best we can.”
