Goodyear Tire Testing At LVMS Complete
Saturday, 13 December 2008 11:25

The Goodyear tire test sessions have wrapped up at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, Mark Martin, Carl Edwards, Brian Vickers and David Stremme were fortunate enough to be invited to the events at LVMS.

On January 1, 2009 the new testing ban will take effect, preventing every team from testing on a NASCAR sanctioned raceway. With time ticking away, the four drivers were given some extremely valuable time on the superspeedway.

With no incidents occurring over the two day sessions, Martin is thrilled to have had a chance to spend some time with his new team on the track.

"Is it possible that this test session could be an advantage?" Martin questioned. "I think that any experience you can get will be a premium factor in 2009. Drivers with experience can bring a little more to the team, test session or no test session. It's about the time you've spent on the track."

"The switch to a new team has certainly rejuvenated my career." Martin continued, "It's such an honor to be wanted by this team and to be welcomed to a new team is very flattering to me. Now the pressure is really on and I will have to work hard to keep up with the other guys. It's unbelievable to be able to work with (crew chief) Alan (Gustaffson) and (team owner Rick) Hendrick. The depth and knowledge of that group is unbelievable and I am looking forward to the 2009 season. I'm a lucky dude."

As for Edwards, he feels that the No. 99 Roush Fenway team would manage just fine without testing. After winning last season's event at LVMS, Edwards hopes the testing will help them tally some victories in 2009 stating, "As far as testing, we would be fine if we didn't, but it is nice to have the opportunity."
