For the first year ever, hardcore race fans throughout the nation were asked to nominate their favorite drivers in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Craftsman Truck Series and each of the six national touring series.
With voting conducted from July 7th until the final race of each series on www.nascar.com and www.nascarhometracks.com, fans overwhelmingly made their voices heard. Over 253,000 votes were cast for a total of 258 drivers in each series. The final choices for each award was not announced until each series' season-ending banquet.
Nationwide Series driver Brad Keselowski received more votes than any driver with 59,300 votes. The fans cast more votes for drivers in the Nationwide Series than any of the other seven series, a total of 131,875 votes. 
2008 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Johnny Benson and 2008 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Ted Christopher were the only two champions to take home the honor of being named Most Popular Drivers. One of the closest battles came in the NASCAR Camping World Series West. Moses Smith was named the Most Popular Driver of the series over Austin Cameron.
