In more off-season news, it appears Elliott Sadler is out of a ride and on the market after Gillett Evernham Motorsports has decided to replace him in the No. 19 Dodge. According to reports, AJ Allmendinger is poised to take Sadler's spot with the team for the 2009 season.
A source close to the situation confirmed Elliot was out of a ride and that many of his sponsors were unhappy with the move. Under contract with GEM and not Sadler himself, those unhappy with the announcement are required to remain loyal to the team.
After just two seasons behind the wheel of the No. 19 Dodge, Sadler is apparently now out on his own. The relationship produced little to brag about, only two top-5s and ten top-10s in seventy-two starts. With the announcement coming in the middle of the off-season, teams interested in Sadler may be forced to wait out their current driver contracts until they can work something out with the Emporia, Virginia-native. Sadler now adds his name to a growing list of drivers available for rides next year. Joining the likes of Bobby Labonte, Ken Schrader, Dave Blaney, Joe Nemechek, Patrick Carpentier, J.J. Yeley and others, Sadler throws his hat in the ring with very few options. Last season, Allmendinger turned a number of heads after rebounding from a disappointing start with Red Bull Racing. After being dismissed from the No. 84 team in September, Allmendinger finished out the year behind the wheel of the GEM No. 10.
In just five races with the team, Allmendinger had four finishes of 16th-or better and recorded a worst finish of 26th at Texas. In those same five races, Sadler finished better than 26th only once, a 25th in Atlanta.
