While Mike Wallace won't say which one, he does say he has secured a competitive car for the 2009 Daytona 500. Confident of qualifying for the seasons biggest event, he will keep a Wallace family streak alive if he is in the field when the green flag waves six weeks from tomorrow.
One of the Wallace brothers has competed in the Daytona 500 each year since Rusty began the tradition in 1984. Younger sibling Kenny made it twenty-five consecutive 500's when he started the 2008 Daytona 500.
Forty-nine year old Mike Wallace's last start in the Great American Race came in 2007 when he finished fourth. Beyond Speedweeks in Daytona, Mike Wallace states he has no definite plans and is unsure of what the balance of 2009 will bring. He says he will consider any of the top three NASCAR Series, Trucks, Nationwide or Cup.
"We're still talking to people, and they're still interested in possibly doing something," Wallace said. "The only thing that I'm thinking is that I wish it was, like, three months ago -- because the way they're thinking and the way I'm thinking, knowing how close the beginning of the season is, causes me a little bit of concern." Wallace drove a Toyota for Germain Racing in the Nationwide Series last season. Germain Racing has committed to a part time Cup schedule in 2009 with Italian driver Max Papis.
