Team Dakar Showcases Abilities In Tenth Stage

After being delayed for several hours due to a thick fog preventing the A.S.O.'s helicopters from taking off, the loop around Copiapo was in sequence. The full stage was not ran, the A.S.O. shortened stage ten of the Dakar Rally by 200-km due to low volumes of sand in the special.

Team Dakar USA had a strong showing in stage ten. Eric Voigouroux is slowly gaining composure in the event, taking his No. 324 Vanguard Hummer to a tenth place finish.

Robby Gordon took the No. 309 Monster Energy Toyo Tires to a second place finish. Gordon held the lead for much of the event, but lost it at the end by 0:21 to Carlos Sainz.

“Today was another great showing for Team Dakar USA," stated Gordon. "The No. 309 Monster Energy Toyo Tires Hummer finished the day second, while the No. 324 Vanguard Hummer finished 10th."

“I really thought that we had a shot to win today’s stage. Carlos Sainz started about four minutes in front of us today, so we did a good job catching and passing him." Gordon continued, "We would have won today had it not been for the camel grass at the end of the stage. He was better than us on this part of today’s race and passed us for the stage win. I don’t foresee any issues today as we prepare for the final days of competition. The Monster Energy Toyo Tires team is really close to overcoming fourth place. We may be able to have a podium finish after all."

Due to heavy fog once again plaguing the route, the A.S.O. has cancelled stage 11 of the Dakar Rally.

"The day's special stage has been cancelled. As the weather forecast announces heavy fog on the whole route of the stage and as the timing of the stage cannot be altered due to the crossing of the Andes and the crossing of the border between Chile and Argentina, the organizers have decided to cancel the portion of stage 11 between Copiapo and Fiambala that should have been against the clock," said the A.S.O. in a statement this morning. "The participants will be getting to the Fiambala bivouac in liaison starting at 8:00 AM."
