Logano Ready For Rookie Season
Monday, 19 January 2009 08:51

After running a couple of races in the Cup series in 2008, Joey Logano is mentally preparing for his rookie season as a full-time driver.

With the current ban on testing, Logano and all of the other rookies do not have the luxury to gain experience with their crew chiefs over the off-season. With very little track time in the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota, Logano is fortunate that he got a shot to drive in 2008.

“It makes it hard to be a rookie nowadays because you don’t get to do that testing," stated Logano. "The veterans have experience. There’s nothing we can do about it at this point so we’re just going to go for it.”

Able to compete in 2008, Logano feels that his experience in a Cup car will help him in his rookie season.

“I think it’s going to help me quite a bit, just so you’re not going in there cold turkey and don’t know what you’ve got anymore," Logano said. "So kind of got some stuff to work off of from there. Overall it was a plus.”

With drivers such as Scott Speed and Max Papis competeing for the Raybestos Rookie of the Year award, Logano has set his sights on the trophy when asked on his goals for 2009.

“I would say the Raybestos Rookie of the Year would be pretty big, obviously in the Cup series." Logano continued, "From there we just have to kind of go with the flow, see what we’ve got when we started. We don’t get that testing so we don’t really know where we’re going to be. Just kind of go with the flow and do the best we can every week.”
