Wednesday, 21 January 2009 08:44

As Lowe's Motor Speedway celebrates 50 years of the running of the Coca-Cola 600, it will take time to reflect on the race's former winners. Bobby Allison will represent those drivers as he serves as the Grand Marshal at the race's anniversary, Allison has won the event three times in his storied career (1971, 1981 and 1984).

As well as stating the words "Gentlemen, Start Your Engines," Allison will take a ceremonial victory lap around the speedway in the very same 1969 Mercury Cyclone that he took to victory lane in the 1971 Coca-Cola 600.

With event winners such as Richard Petty, David Pearson, Dale Jarrett, Rusty Wallace and Marvin Panch, Allison is honored that he was chosen to serve as Grand Marshal for the 50th running of one of NASCAR's crown jewel events.

"The Coca-Cola 600 has always been one of the most grueling events on the NASCAR schedule and I can honestly say that every winner of this race was a tremendous competitor," noted Allison. "I'm proud to serve as Grand Marshal, to be a part of Coca-Cola's rich tradition with NASCAR and represent all the drivers who have made it to Victory Lane at this great race."
