Yates Racing announced Tuesday that Travis Kvapil's No. 28 Ford Fusion would carry the colors and sponsor of Golden Corral for the 2009 Daytona 500.
Throughout much of the 2008 season Yates Racing showed its ability to remain competitive despite the lack of sufficient sponsorship funding. With economic conditions worsening and the rest of the garage forced to adapt, perhaps the 2008 season has given this team a head start on the competition for 2009.
Utilizing various companies as primary sponsors throughout the year, Yates Racing has been able to survive while others have fallen by the wayside or merged with larger organizations. While Yates does have an engine program with Roush Fenway Racing and the two are closely tied together, there is no doubt this team is doing it the hard way. "It's great to have Golden Corral on board for the biggest race of the year," Kvapil explained. "I've always been a huge fan of Golden Corral, and now to have them on the No. 28 Ford Fusion for the Daytona 500 is such a great opportunity for us. "I can't wait to get back down to Daytona. It's been a long off season without any testing, and I think I speak for all the guys on the No. 28 team, but we are all chomping at the bit to get back down there. Doug (Yates) has been working solid hours over at the engine shop getting ready for the 500, and I know we'll have a ton of horsepoweunder the hood of the No. 28 Golden Corral Ford Fusion."
With 485 restaurants in 41 states, Golden Corral not only a fan favorite but a staple throughout the United States. Not only "America's favorite family restaurant and buffet grill," Golden Corral has also shown its support of America's military and its disable veterans. In 2008, Golden Corral helped raise $736,000 for the Disable Veterans of America. By joining forces with Yates Racing, Golden Corral is reaching out to millions of loyal Hardcore Race Fans throughout the nation. "Golden Corral is thrilled to be a part of this year's Daytona 500," Chris Kuehn, Chief Marketing Officer of Golden Corral added. "Golden Corral customers and employees have been long time supporters and fans of NASCAR and to be with Travis Kvapil and Yates Racing in the Daytona 500 is a perfect fit for our brand."
