A new season has started! While fans are trying to familiarize themselves to all the new drivers, teams, sponsors, and colors that 2008’s Silly Season has brought us, there are definitely some drivers that have something to prove. In no particular order, here are the drivers that have all eyes following them:
1. Jimmie Johnson- He’s going for his fourth Championship in a row. Can Jimmie and Chad Knaus prevail over the competition again? Everyone will be watching to see how this team will race during the season and if a fourth championship is in the cards. 2. Kyle Busch- Kyle seemed unstoppable going into the Chase for the Championship, but was met with many disappointments and finished the season in 10th place. There is a fire to this driver and there are no doubts he will start the season will all ‘guns a’blazin’. Can Kyle complete what he started last season and win a championship? It will be interesting to see what he and his team might resort to for a win.

3. Kasey Kahne- Kasey was last year’s All-Star winner, after being voted in by the fans. He went on to win the Coca-Cola 600 the following weekend and again in Pocono two weeks later. This year Kasey has some new teammates, and needs to return to what we remember him to be. The rookie with all the potential to be the next Jeff Gordan or Richard Petty himself. Could the merger with Richard Petty Motorsports give Kasey the boost he needs to return to the racing radar? 4. Tony Stewart- Tony has a huge undertaking this season. Not only is he the driver of a new team, he is the owner as well. His demeanor during pre-race interviews at the Shootout and throughout Speedweek was calm and collected – something most fans are not use to seeing. Not only will Tony now have the stress of being a driver, but the stress of an owner as well. Knowing his temper, fans want to know if the driver/owner combo will be too much for this two-time Championship driver and if Tony will climb some fences this season. 5. Mark Martin- How wonderful is it to see Mark driving full time again? One of the good ole’ boys has returned for a last chance at a Championship. Hendrick has had many champions come out of their stables, and it definitely would be exciting to see Mark fulfill his dreams and become the 2009 Sprint Cup Champion. We know the man can drive, and hopefully a Hendrick team and equipment can give him the boost he needs. 6. Kurt Busch- The 2004 Championship winner has had seven victories since taking over the "Blue Deuce", with one win last year and two runner-up finishes. Kurt has sited a lack of consistency in previous years and hopes to start this season off on a great note. If the team can become consistent this year with their finishes, it is a definite possibility that they could be in contention for the Cup. 7. Marcos Ambrose- A veteran road-course driver, Marcos won his first Nationwide Series race at Watkins Glen last season. He has made the jump to the Sprint Cup Series racing in the number 47 JTG Daugherty Racing machine and will be the first Australian to race in the Daytona 500. Can this road-course driver be as successful on the oval as he has been on the many international circuits he has raced in? 8. Reed Sorenson- A veteran at the age of 23, Reed left Chip Ganassi Racing last season to join Richard Petty Motorsports. The 2007 Indianapolis pole sitter is stepping into a new ride, a famous ride with a lot of history. Of course there are a lot of difficulties that come along with a new team and a new ride, but a new team and ride could be what this driver needs to get his first Cup win. 9. David Stremme- Taking Ryan Newman’s place in the Penske number 12, this is David’s comeback season in the Cup Series. He competed last season with Rusty Wallace Racing on a limited season in the Nationwide Series. David has two full time seasons under his belt with Chip Ganassi Racing, and this season could be the comeback he’s been looking for. 10. Joey Lagano- Taking over for Tony Stewart in the 20 Home Depot ride, Joey has some huge shoes to fill. He has had early success in the Nationwide Season winning at Kentucky Speedway- his third race in the series. Can Joey compete on such a high level of racing with limited experience? He’s got his hands full during Speedweek in Daytona, and this start could predict the rest of this young gun’s first season in the Cup Series.
