Final practice at the Auto Club Speedway is in the books for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and once again it's Jimmie Johnson atop the leader board. Looked at by many in the garage as the man to beat, Johnson hopes to earn his fourth victory at the Auto Club Speedway when it is all said and done on Sunday afternoon.
The three-time defending Cup Series champion ran a total of 51 laps, with a fast-lap of 40.09 seconds at a speed of 179.582 mph. One of his best tracks on the circuit, Johnson went to victory lane in his first Cup Series event at the Auto Club Speedway and has been a threat ever since. Along with his three victories, the El Cajon, California-native has eight top-5s and eight top-10s at the 2-mile D-shaped oval. In the last four events, the driver of the No. 48 Lowe's/Kobalt Chevrolet finished in the top-3 each time.
Joe Gibbs Racing's Denny Hamlin was second-quick in the lengthy final practice for Sunday's Auto Club 500. The driver of the No. 11 FedEx Toyota ran a total of 49 laps with his best lap coming at a speed of 178.280 mph. Roush Fenway Racing's Jamie McMurray put his No. 26 Crown Royal Ford third on the speed charts with a lap of 40.44 seconds at a speed of 178.055 mph. Mark Martin and Greg Biffle rounded out the top-5.
