There is no questioning the fact the Sprint All-Star Race is a slugfest. With no points on the line and nothing but money and pride at stake, drivers are willing to do whatever it takes to score the win and put their name in the record books as an All-Star winner. In honor of its 25th anniversary, Lowe’s Motor Speedway has brought in a living legend who knows a thing or two about slugfests.
The speedway announced Friday that 16-time World Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair will serve as the annual event’s Honorary Race Director. Flair, who resided in Charlotte, will attend the drivers’ meeting, assist with driver introductions and serve as a judge for the second annual Pennzoil Victory Challenge prior to the start of the All-Star Race. In addition, Flair will assist in the speedway’s television and radio advertising campaign leading up to the event.
"I'm honored to be a part of the 25th running of the Sprint All-Star Race," Flair explained. "I'm a long-time Charlotte resident and Lowe's Motor Speedway is an integral part of our city. It's one of the things that makes Charlotte a great place to live. There's nothing like NASCAR and the 'Nature Boy' to get you pumped up! WoooOOOooo!"
"We've had some great personalities serve as dignitaries at the speedway over the years, but I have to admit, none have been stylin' and profilin' like the 'Nature Boy' will be at the 25th NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race," Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway pointed out. "Growing up in this area and watching Ric perform through the years, it's going to be a treat for me and all of the fans at the speedway. I can't think of a better fit for NASCAR's All-Star slugfest."
The former WWE wrestler definitely knows a thing or two about slugfests. During his 36-year professional wrestling career, Flair brought a flash and excitement to the ring. The 16-time World Heavyweight Champion was inducted into the WWE Hall of fame in 2008, becoming the first active wrestler to receive the honor.
Tickets for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on May 16 start at only $25 and can be purchased by calling 1-800-455-FANS or online at www.lowesmotorspeedway.com. Convenient payment plan options and multi-day ticket packages are also available.
