Independent driver/owner Robby Gordon announced Thursday the addition of SPOT, LLC as primary sponsor of the team’s No. 7 Toyota Camry. Starting their relationship this weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway, both Gordon and those from SPOT are excited about their new endeavor.
“SPOT is proud to team up with Robby Gordon, a true entrepreneur, adventurist and creative force in automotive racing and one of the most versatile drivers in the entire world of motorsport,” Tom Colby, chief operating officer of Globalstar Inc. and president of SPOT LLC explained. “Our growth will continue to be supported with new marketing initiatives. This partnership is an exciting opportunity to connect with NASCAR fans and increase our brand visibility in a highly relevant market. Robby’s passion, commitment and knowledge for motorsports are second to none and SPOT welcomes his enthusiasm as a brand advocate for our product.”
The world’s first satellite GPS messenger, SPOT uses the satellite signals to send the user’s location and message to any contacts or emergency services. Unlike a cell phone, SPOT will always have a signal thanks to the use of the global satellites.
An avid user of SPOT, Gordon utilized the device while running off-road races throughout the desert and other remote areas of the world. The GPS device and messenger allows Gordon to update his contacts of his condition while it enables others to track his progress in real-time through things such as Google Maps.
“Partnering with SPOT at Bristol is a natural progression for our brands,” Gordon added. “SPOT and Robby Gordon Motorsports share a common vision that is dedicated to the pursuit of adventure, exploring new possibilities and being innovative in our developments. SPOT offers cutting edge technology that is highly relevant for the active outdoor user. There isn’t a better place for us to kick things off than at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend.”
With only one top-15 at the Bristol Motor Speedway, Gordon hopes his new sponsor will guide him to the front of the field and out of trouble.
“We had a great car at Bristol in the night race last August. It was unfortunate that our night ended early after getting caught up in a wreck on Lap 216. We are excited to be going to Bristol with SPOT as our primary sponsor and are confident that the No. 7 SPOT Toyota Camry will have an awesome debut. It is a great opportunity to showcase the SPOT product to the NASCAR fans.”
